Formed in Edinburgh in 1982 from the ashes of Scottish punk/new wave bandThe Freeze, Cindytalk have been exploring their own unique brand of noisyand dark experimentalism with vocal brilliance and subtle beauty eversince. Always going in diverse musical directions at the same time, theyhave been one of the UK music scene’s most awkward yet rewarding bands.During the 80’s and 90’s their sound was defined by broken down rockstructures and abstract piano ambience. A third side to their coin emergedat the dawn of the 21st century with a turn towards obscure computer usagepushing all resemblance of melody and conventional texture to the outeredges.
Singer Gordon Sharp’s flirtations with the mainstream, via his work with 4AD’s ambient-pop collective "This Mortal Coil", might have brought the spotlight toward them but rather than being seduced into more orthodoxareas this only toughened them up and brought about more radical shifts into primitive electronics and abstract soundscapes.
Live, the band mix those abstract electronics with live band organics tocreate a textured, semi-improvised whole that takes the listener to uncharted sonic and emotional territories.
Cindytalk recently signed to the highly regarded Viennese label Editions Mego (home to Fennesz, KTL, Pita, Bruce Gilbert and Mika Vainio.) Their new Editions Mego album "The Crackle Of My Soul" will be released on November 2nd this year.
