Lucy Wainwright Roche
Lucy Wainwright RocheLucy Wainwright Roche grew up in Greenwich Village, the daughter of two performing musicians--Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche (The Roches). Her childhood was spent living out of a suitcase, either on the road with her parents or being ferried around to different relatives in her big musical clan. Although she loved traveling as a kid and took towriting songs at an early age, Lucy was the child of rebels and pursued her own path, leading her to attend Oberlin College, pursue a Master’s Degree in education and become a second and third grade teacher.

But music was in Lucy’s blood, and when her brother Rufus Wainwright invited her to sing backup on a few tours in 2005 and 2006, she left the classroom to pursue her music. Drawing on her experiences from teaching and traveling, she began writing new songs and recorded her debut CD 8 Songs in 2007, receiving rave reviews from National Public Radio and The New York Times. She hit the road full-time, playing across North America, Europe and Australia with such notable acts as Amos Lee, Dar Williams, Neko Case, Mary Gauthier and Teddy Thompson. Her crystalline voice, charming stage presence and refreshingly honest songwritng has made her a quick favorite with audiences, whether she’s playing in a theater, rock club or a national radio show like Mountain Stage.

In 2008, Lucy released her her follow-up album 8 More, featuring the song “Snare Drum” which won her first place in the singer-songwriter categories in both the USA Songwriting Contest and the Independent Music Awards. She was selected as one of the winners of the 2008 Falcon

"Sincere and raw...Roche’s bittersweet voice leaps out; she paints an indelible image" NPR
