Dixie Fried are a 2 piece, up-beat, blues inspired rock band from Central Scotland. They write songs about things we all witness in our own life experiences, from long car journeys to drunken nights to the "special" characters that every town and village have bouncing through every street. However, they do tell each story to a background of Americana inspired rhythmic hypnotic blues music.
The backbeat of each song has a pulse that sings to your soul through Murphy's drums, then you find yourself lost in music as Lamie's captivating and alluring guitar style wondering why have you never found Dixie Fried before now ? With inspirations coming from RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, with the more contemporary North Mississippi Allstars and very early Black Keys it is easy to hear their hero's influence but still capturing the dry yet clever, Scottish wit within the lyrics.
Having several Scottish tours during past few years, festival slots at Almost Blue in Dundee, Maryport Blues, Beat Herder Lancs, Jocktoberfest on The Black Isle, and recent winners of Best Small Festival at Scottish Event Awards Southern Fried Festival. Supports slots for Aynsley Lister, The Beards, Molotov Jukebox, Bob Log III, Marcus Bonfanti and Dave Arcari. Dixie fried can adapt to any environment to put on a captivating show.
With a handful of new songs already penned for an abandoned Shakin’ Pyramids reunion, Davie Duncan and Kenny McLellan shelved the material and put any future plans aside, at least for the time being, but an impromptu get together with Laurie Cuffe and Shug Jamieson (old friends from Glasgow’s music scene of the late 70s/early 80s) rekindled the fire.
It was a chance to catch up and play a few tunes so out came the guitars and with them all the
The Violent Mood Swings
The Violent Mood Swings is not just a band but a concept.
Drawing from different players over the years to form what essentially is a Mood Swing musically speaking. The band has a core of players but the line up changes from time to time depending on availability and then thats when you get your Mood Swing.
Lead Singer and writer of the Music Baz Simpson has been involved from day one and today the core of the band also involves Danny Appolinari on lead guitar and the two lads from Edinburgh's notable band The Dark Jokes with Ru Morrison on Bass and Paul Dennigton on drums.
The band is hard to pigeon hole as all the players bring lots of different things to the table but are all players with alot of skill and flare.
Genres get crossed over and we suppose if there was a genre for The VMS then it would certainly be Dark Murder Tango Gypsy Jazz Blues
